Airfield Letter May 2024

Welcome to spring! The grass is greener (and growing faster), the birds are singing and the airport is waking up.
Thanks to the efforts of Leo Dringoli and Mark Cigal, we have a new wind indicator toward the north end of the airfield … it’s a tetrahedron painted international orange, or as close as they could come to it, on a white stone base, and it’s nice and visible from the air. Best of all, it works! While the windsock just South of it shows minor luffs and puffs of air, the tetrahedron more accurately shows the prevailing wind direction. Hats off to Leo and Mark for their very useful donation (plus, it was fun for a couple of engineers)!
MNote the old windsock just South and the other side of Judy Paine’s taxiway, recently remounted. It’s due to be replaced with a fresh one that came with the airfield.
Our old fuel shack will be coming down shortly after weather, etc, has held up the process of dismantling … The plan is to move it behind Hangar 6 for storage of the mower and supplies; the tanks to go … somewhere else ... and the old chemical shed to the dump.
We all want to keep the airfield safe and usable. The grass at the South end of the Airfield took a beating during the motorcycle show. Please, no driving across the runway. We’re trying to eliminate risk, rough spots and grow grass. If you see someone doing this, please ask that they use either the North End, Eastbrook Ln. or Museum entrances.
Thank you! Fly safe!
