HAPPY NEW YEAR! New email address: airfield8nc9@gmail.com
There’s a lot to write about. With the new year we are moving toward full occupancy with nothing but airplanes in our hangars plus the renovation of the maintenance shed and tractor hangar. The machining equipment that was in Leland Johnson’s hangar was moved into that space for temporary storage before we bought the airfield and last month Jerry Moore moved some of it into the end of the Museum Hangar behind the ornithopter. All that equipment is out for bids this month and will, hopefully, be gone soon with the proceeds going into the airfield capital fund.
Welcome to a new hangar neighbor, Chad Buckingham, and his Cherokee Challenger. Chad is in the Museum Hangar temporarily in John Wood’s spot while renovating the maintenance shed into Hangar #11. John is debating selling his newly acquired Pietenpol, currently in Tennessee. There’s a lot of work to be done on the maintenance shed. Jerry Moore already moved 3 loads of stone into position to provide a stable floor surface once it’s leveled. The tractor and mower will fit in a bay within the maintenance shed that was created years ago for that purpose. Jerry had his 150 in that space for a long time before he sold it, so we know Chad’s airplane will fit.
Carl Goutell is slated to join us with his Mooney in Hangar #9 with Steve Lyons … Carl owns the four hangars at the north end occupied by the North End Gang …
Since last month’s letter, Sid Tolchin moved his Aerolite 103 into hangar #7 with Joe Harber’s Excalibur. Joe sent us a nice contribution toward the capital fund, for which, Joe, we thank you. We know it’s hard to spend much time here since you’re still living in the Atlanta area and we’re looking forward to your being closer one of these days.
Our Hangar Waiting List is for new tenant applicants and a Change List for current tenants wanting to move. An asterisk indicates the person has declined a hangar when they were #1 and were bumped back one spot. A second decline will show 2 asterisks and a bump down 2 spots. A third will result in their going to the bottom of the list. A hangar can remain vacant for 90 days upon the sale of an aircraft (with rent kept current) but the intent of the airfield is to have our hangars filled with active, flying airplanes
***Note*** BE SURE TO FILE YOUR HENDERSON COUNTY INDIVIDUAL PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LISTING BEFORE JANUARY 31! *** We have to file a list of tenants and aircraft and the list has to agree.
