Airfield Letter February 2024 Update

Halfway through the month and we have the best flying day yet! This bodes well for our aviating season at Johnson Field . . .

A reminder that I forgot to put in the last news note: Our hangars are for Museum Members. The reason is partly preferential treatment for people who support our educational and cultural mission and partly an insurance issue. The Museum is covered for member activities – if a non-member is involved somehow in an incident on the Museum grounds and is also a tenant (i.e. sanctioned by the museum to be here) then we have a problem. I’ve also attached a Museum membership form for you to fill out if you are not yet a member. Please be sure to send it in with your check for $30 (individual) or other membership level to the address on the form or drop it off in the donation box at the Museum entrance. This also applies to our Paramotor Club Members and Ultralight community.

Please keep the gate at the Eastbrook Drive access point on the South end of the field closed as much as possible to prevent further erosion of the grass. Too many cars owned by non-members are driving through there, some just to poke around to see what’s going on. During the spring we hope to stabilize our ramp areas further with water-permeable surfacing. Don’t worry, we’ll be asking for your help with that!

Thank you for your support as we transition the Airfield to the flying community we’ve all hoped to have.

Keep safe, Fly safe. Help out.

All the best
